Set in late 1990s military-era Nigeria, the story follows Zilayefa, a 17-year-old mixed-race girl nicknamed "Yellow-Yellow" due to her Greek-sailor father and Nigerian-Ijaw mother.
  • The Escape: After crude oil spillage devastates her village's farmlands and livelihoods, Zilayefa flees the rural Niger Delta for the bustling city of Port Harcourt in search of a better future.
  • City Life: Sponsored by local mentors, she adapts to city life but faces severe social prejudice due to her racial identity. Struggling with poverty and the emotional void of never knowing her father, she is drawn into an affair with an older, wealthy man, Admiral Kenneth Alaowei Amalayefa.
  • The Consequences: The relationship leads to an unwanted pregnancy and subsequent abandonment by the Admiral. After surviving a harrowing self-abortion, Zilayefa is forced to redefine her identity, reclaim her independence, and pursue a true personal rebirth through education.
